Jim Lambie (b. 1964, Scotland) lives and works in Glasgow. Lambie is celebrated for his colourful installation pieces, made from familiar everyday materials - imbuing a pop-aesthetic into his immediate surroundings to transform the space whilst simultaneously drawing the viewer’s attention toward architectural idiosyncrasies (in his distinctive architectural interventions – the floors or walls are striped with vibrant electrical tape, for example). In other works, such as his paint-soaked mattresses, Lambie adroitly sculpts humor and pathos from the clutter of modern life. His practice imbues the spirit of his hometown and is often understood through the lens of punk and rock music, carrying aesthetic references to music through the frequent use of objects such as record players, inserts and vinyl’s.
