Andrea Zittel (b. 1965, Escondido CA lives and works in Joshua Tree CA and Brooklyn NY. Over the last twenty years, Zittel has used the articles of day-to-day life – food, furniture, clothing, shelter – as the basis for her work. The defining quality of her practice arises from its indivisibility from the artist’s life; undertaking explorations into the accelerated impact of technological, social, and structural change, and the potential for alternative modes of living. As the artist has stated, her practice “plays out through the act of daily living, and examines how psychological structures, belief systems, social values, and rules are manifested as physical objects that we create around ourselves.”
