Urs Fischer’s interest lies in everyday objects - food, drink, tables, chairs, cats... A balloon provides an improbable support for a cast metal broom. An office chair is the unlikely ammunition fired from a small cannon.
Instead of using and reconfiguring readymades, Fischer makes objects via a production process that is organic and experimental, and embraces both construction and destruction. The traces of this process remain at the core of the finished work.The artist’s riddle-like titles serve as a linguistic complement to the works. He combines common words into unexpected phrases, throwing up surprising verbal and visual connections.
