How can we, as workers on the imaginary, grasp the poetics of life lived when racism, war, and patriarchal violence push our immediate experience out of sight? For Real For Real brings together artists who bring us closer to the peculiarities, obsessions and idiosyncrasies, the playfulness, the mysteriousness, the amazement of a single person – a person who lives in the wild thicket of the now, who loves, looks, creates, breaks, collapses and goes on and on.
For Real For Real is presented by The Racial Imaginary Institute (TRII), an interdisciplinary artistic laboratory founded by poet Claudia Rankine. The exhibition is being created in cooperation with the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program and in dialogue with Kevin Quashie's book Black Aliveness: A Poetics of Being. It will be accompanied by an extensive programme of readings, talks and screenings.
