Sarah Lucas (*1962 in London, UK) critically and humorously explores aspects of the human body and its social attributions in her work. Characterized by a radical formal language, she questions social norms and gender stereotypes in her photographs, sculptures, and installations. Everyday objects and language often find their way into her work, playfully placing them in new contexts of meaning and exploring fundamental themes of sculpture. In her first institutional exhibition in Germany since 2005, Lucas brings together works spanning almost four decades of artistic creation. These range from early works from the 1990s to recent works in which she further develops questions of the physical in the social field.
