Dutch artist Jacobus Co Westerik (1924–2018) meticulously reflects on what is unconsciously observed. He enlarges reality, vibrantly depicting the minutiae of everyday experiences by playing with the boundaries of perception. Initially part of the ‘Verve’ group in The Hague between 1951–57, he later worked alone in a life-long dedication to the depiction of the human body and its relationship to nature. By distorting scale and perspective, Co Westerik travels from the ordinary to the marvellous. His works unveil a secret, adding a significant twist to what is known.
