William N. Copley (1919-1996), also known as CPLY, was a painter, writer, gallerist, art patron, publisher and art entrepreneur. CPLY (pronounced ‘see-ply’) critically linked European Surrealist and American Pop Art movements in the twentieth century, and has work in numerous public and private collections worldwide. Painting figuratively, CPLY’s works combine narrative elements with symbolic and widely recognisable motifs, resulting in works that are simultaneously personal, evasive and often verging on the ironic.
