About
The Kunsthaus Zürich invites you to the inauguration of "Zardoz," an over eight-meter-high sculpture by British artist Monster Chetwynd. The monumental artwork in the Garden of Art was commissioned by the Kunsthaus and is freely accessible to everyone. It is simultaneously an experiential space, a fantasy world, and an interactive object.
Inspired by the grotesque figures of the 16th-century Garden of Bomarzo, by science fiction visions of the 1970s, and the tradition of the Follies, the work invites children and adults alike to enter and explore. The accessible climbing frame inside transforms the monumental into the accessible and, for the first time, activates the outdoor space designed by David Chipperfield as a true "Garden of Art."
A diverse supporting program centred around "Zardoz" will take place in 2026: performances, children's workshops, lectures on architecture and theories of play, and many other activities are planned.
The project was initiated by the Kunsthaus Zürich, realized in partnership with the Swiss Sculpture Exhibition (SPA), and supported by the Hans Imholz Foundation, the Tarbaca Indigo Foundation, the Dr. Georg and Josi Guggenheim Foundation, and private patrons of the Gateway Fund, as well as Swiss Re - Partner for Contemporary Art and other funding partners.
