Isabella Ducrot
Vegetal Devotion

Fondazione Bonollo, Thiene
08 June - 28 September 2024

Blooming lilies and vines laden with bunches of grapes decorate the dark, antique wood of the entrance door of the Church of the Dimesse in Thiene, marking the boundary between sacred and profane space. Throughout the history of sacred art, plants, flowers, and trees have always had a symbolic function; they have never been the subject matter in themselves. Isabella Ducrot. Vegetal Devotion is the first solo exhibition in the Sandra and Giancarlo Bonollo Foundation's program.

In her book La vita femminile (Quodlibet, 2021), artist and writer Isabella Ducrot (b. 1931, Naples), the protagonist of the first exhibition of the program, reflects on the need to "regress to childhood" and to "always remember that we belong to the female gender [...] that segment of the human population without its own history." It is precisely this absence from history that becomes the protagonist of the solo exhibitions at the Bonollo Foundation, starting with the exhibition Vegetal Devotion .
