Schloss Altdöbern, Altdöbern
On view until 01 November 2026
What's new? And how does it come into the world? The 31st ROHKUNSTBAU asks about the possibilities and limits of the transformation of the existing. "The art of transgression" is the theme of this year's exhibition at Altdöbern Castle. The show concentrates on the perspective of the actors within a pre-structured order, in short: on the logic of transcending the given into something new. At the same time, the 31st ROHKUNSTBAU will at the same time fuel justified doubts as to whether everything that is new is really better and thus put the paradigm of modernity to the test. After all, does the change to something new necessarily mean progress? Or is change perhaps just the banal result of transgression towards a different state? How would this other then be evaluated? And would it then necessarily be new?
The exhibition explores a wide range of topics: The "Art of Transgression"
- as a motor of social change in the sense of the redesign and redesign of existing structures and ways of thinking,
- as a manoeuvre to overcome interpersonal boundaries and barriers through the creation of new interactive relationships and forms of cooperation,
- as a technological innovation with a view to a more sustainable and resilient society in times of climate crisis and wars
- as a reflexive critique in the field of digital transformation and the new worlds of experience of artificial intelligence
- as an artistic strategy of overcoming tradition and the limits of media.
