Urs Fischer
Anti-Structure

DESTE’s Anti-Structure exhibition, curated by Andreas Melas, resists traditional form and embraces chaos. Featuring an eclectic assortment of works from across time and genre, Anti-Structure puts Urs Fischer’s gravity-defying sculptures in dialogue with art by Greek and Cypriot creators, including Yannoulis Chalepas, Nausica Pastra, George Lappas, Pantelis Xagoraris, and Takis Zenetos. The exhibition is named after a term coined by anthropologist Victor Turner, who defined “anti-structure” as a state of limbo inhabited during a rite of passage. In this space, we cross an event horizon, and our very identities collapse and are reformed. Anti-Structure offers an innovative, immersive experience that welcomes interpretation and invites the viewer to cross the boundary between who they are and what they could be.

Published on the occassion of the exhibition Anti-Structure (02 June - 27 October, 2021) hosted by DESTE Foundation, Athens.
