Victoria Morton
Mouth Wave
Published on the occassion of the artist's first exhibition in Japan, Mouth Wave (14 February - 25 May, 2014) hosted by Rat Hole Gallery, Tokyo, showcasing a new series of work by Victoria Morton comprised of large-scale paintings and assemblage sculptures.
Born in Glasgow, 1971, Victoria Morton is an artist who continues to explore the expansion of visual and spatial possibilities in the genre of painting, and the way in which it has a psychological effect on the viewer. Her paintings, with their meticulous details, thick brushstrokes, and watercolor-like handling of oil paint, are abstract, yet the canvases, which reflect history, music, and daily life, also reveal concrete elements such as the human body. Combining layers of vibrant and delicate colors with methods such as movement, repetition, and fragmentation, her paintings metaphorically evoke psychology and emotions in the viewer.
