Daniel
Sinsel

Daniel Sinsel’s (b. 1976, Munich) paintings and sculptures combine various materials and styles to explore themes of space, volume and illusion. Built up using multiple layers of oil paint, Sinsel’s paintings are marked by trompe l’oeil illusion and technical virtuosity – and mount explorations of shape, objecthood and the erotics of space. Each painting self-reflexively explores the history of its medium, at once encompassing the abstract materiality of arte povera, classical motifs and the still life genre. In various contrasting ways, Sinsel’s paintings evince the peculiar qualities and associations of their materials – including glass, cherry stones and nutshell.
