TJ Wilcox (b. 1965, Seattle WA) lives and works in New York. Working primarily in video and film, Wilcox explores the ways in which personal narratives, cultural histories, and their surrounding environments converge and intersect. Fascinated by the notion of history as an ongoing construct, Wilcox has remarked: “history is never static. Re-defining what was great from the past is always influenced by the present. I don’t think that process is ever entirely finished.” In many of his works, the artist gravitates – sometimes imperceptibly – between documentary objectivity and the inner life of his subject. Different narrative moods – history and myth, reportage and romance – intersect and blur.
