Nabuqi’s (b. 1984, Inner Mongolia) practice investigates our perceptions of reality, questioning the psychological nature of human engagement with objects and materials. Working predominantly with handmade sculptures and readymades, she invites viewers to participate in the context of her work, urging them to attune to and reflect upon where her elaborate installations lie on the spectrum between the artificial and the actual. By playing with spatial politics – manipulating fields of vision – Nabuqi prompts a reevaluation of the accepted role of the observer. Through transforming familiar motifs of nature and domesticity, the artist encourages a gentle awareness of ‘presence’ while challenging and disrupting established perceptions, creating an inviting space for comfortable contemplation and critical reflection.
