Matthew Barney (b. 1967, San Francisco CA) lives and works in New York. Barney works across sculpture, photography, drawing and film, often developing singular pieces over a number of years. The Cremaster Cycle (1994-2002), for example, involved a series of five, feature-length films exploring processes of creation developed over almost a decade, whilst his seminal and ongoing Drawing Restraint series began in 1987, with a film set on an Icelandic whaling ship, which has since been followed by a number of films moving from Celtic mythical scenes to the Guggenheim, New York.
