Dirk Bell (b. 1969, Munich) lives and works in Berlin. He was awarded the Scholarship of the Vereins Kunst & Nutzen e.V Bremerhaven (2010), the Scholarship of the Leniksus-Artist in Residence-Programme (2011) and, most recently, the Scholarship Bildende Kunst (2014). Bell’s practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture and installations of found objects. His work harnesses the attitudes and forms of Romanticism, Jugendstil, Symbolism, Minimalism and popular culture towards a distinctive and heterogeneous personal iconography, embracing grand, abstract concepts such as love or freedom and their various figurative manifestations.
